Re: Not a whistle?
Well wouldn't you believe it? The very next day my dad gives to me the recorder I remember sneakily blowing through as a child (I remember it sitting on the top of my nanny's (my grandma's) old piano). It's an Aulos, and it must be getting on for 30 years old, at least!

Not a whistle?
Well it's a fipple flute at any rate (being an end-blown flute - the fipple's the thing you blow through). It's a secondhand Yamaha descant recorder (Yes, the thing that little girls with pig-tails play at primary school. It cost me £4.50 inc. P&P from eBay). I brought it just out of interest to compare it's sound to that of a whistle). A very 'clean' tone. I think I prefer the 'chiffiness' of the whistle.
